Serum demo: preset folder path issue

Started by morukutsu

Just a quick post here, also a splice renter/user with issues related to the location of the Xfer folder. I tried to open the program from my DAW which then hung. I went to the splice app, went to the plugins tab, saw there was an update, and updated. Then I got an error related to the Skins folder missing. When I clicked "OK", it opened up a directory that is the old location for my Windows "docs" directory (I always have my docs directory somewhere other than my C drive). To sum up, Serum points to my old location "F:\My Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets" rather than my new location which is "X:\My Documents\Xfer\Serum Presets". I finally solved this by renaming the folder in "F:\My Documents" to "oldXfer", then reinstalled the program. Now it is pointing to the correct directory on the X: drive. It would be awesome if there were a way to exactly specify where the directory is so that the program can be forced to point to the right directory.

Just as an aside, figuring out where to post and where not to post, and how to get support or not get support, between this site and the Splice site, was super unclear.

No need for further help, as the issues seems resolved for now, but to the Serum developer(s), if you are going to install required program files to the user documents directory, you should consider planning for scenarios within the normal use of Windows, including custom directory locations and possible directory location updates for the My Documents directory.

Hey, I would like to add that as a Mac High Sierra, Splice customer I too just got the update that breaks the path to the skins folder… it looks like the permissions are set hidden as the folders seem to be there just dimmed. Hope this gets worked out I wanted to work on a track today…

UPDATE

There is a BONUS installer pkg listed for SerumFX. After downloading and installing this package the skins and other plugin folders are no longer greyed out and everything is WORKING as of now 2.3.18 8:36am Seattle time (WTF? am I doing up so early…wifeyy…PLEASE!. Coffee Me!)
