Serum demo: preset folder path issue

Started by morukutsu

Hi there,

I wanted to give a try to the Serum demo this evening.
At launch, the VST (I'm on Win 64) prompted me to choose the "Serum Presets" folder (because it's needed to work, that's what it says!).
So I went to Documents/Xfer/Serum Presets; pick the folder… and then it did nothing… and asked me again to pick a folder!

I moved the folder to another place in my hard drive and it worked.
Well, I guess it's because I have an accent in my windows username (what a stupid idea, I know but there's an accent in my first name :D), therefore, there is an accent in my path and I guess Serum doesn't like it so much :)
The thing is, I didn't have this issue with Cthulu as far as I remember.
(Or maybe I had it, I just checked and yeah, I've put the Cthulhu presets folder in the VstPlugins folder also.)

So yeah, since I'm planning on buying, I'm glad I tryed the demo first because otherwise I would have been pissed off for nothing!

Anyway, I just wanted to report the problem in case some other user experience it. I can use Serum without any issue now.
Since I'm a software engineer, I now it can be hard to handle all those corner cases but if you could display an error message if the path is not found it could help.

Enough talking, let's have fun with Serum now!

cheers

Thanks, I was made aware of this too late (I need more foreign beta testers I guess)!

You found the workaround, I'll be fixing this of course.

Warm regards,
Steve

i can't post a thread about it. and this is the closest to the subject i can find. I installed the serum demo on a x64 bit w8.1 pro. but there is no .exe for me to launch the demo. and according to facebook there was supposed to be a updated file rahter than the on the main site.
can anyone shed some light on my issue ?

The update is for the full version, not the demo. The demo will be updated in the near future.
There is no EXE besides the demo *installer* EXE, which you already ran it sounds like.

Serum is a VST plugin (AAX and AudioUnits as well) and requires a VST Host (Ableton Live, FL Studio, etc).

There are some free mini hosts if you want to use Serum "standalone" : http://www.hermannseib.com/english/Savihost.htm

Warm Regards,
Steve

I have installed the program and when I open up serum in ableton it asks for the "serum demo presets" but I can not find it anywhere! I have tried installing it 3x now. Getting frustrated. What to do? I want to try this program!

I have the same issue than DJLeigh, i don't understand where i can found the serum presets folder ^^

it's a plug-in, look under instruments where they normally get added in your host.

Whats your OS?  I see you purchased, you need to have version 1.0 (or the demo) installed first and then run the update installer.

Hi, I just tried running the demo version twice on Mac x64 and both times it made it all the way through to the end, but when I search for its files, I get no results.  I don't know how I can drag the files into my FL folder if I've no idea where they are located, or if they're even there.
Thanks,
-Sam

i have installed the full version to mac but i can not find the presets folder anywere?

You must have only run the update installer, you must first run either the 1.0 or demo version installer, and then (re) run the update installer.

same problem i have installed serum countless times and there just is no folders or anything it just stays as a .pkg

if the installer completes then the files are on your hard disk, you can seem the presets folder yourself if you want: cmd-shift-G in finder (go to folder) and type or paste:
/Library/Audio/Presets/Xfer Records/

I don't know what you mean by "stays a pkg" there is no application, just a VST/AU/AAX plugins.

after I install onto my mac, I cannot find the demo anywhere in my applications, please help

Enable VST plugins in Live Prefs -> File/Folder, and then look in their browser under plugins (not devices) tab.

I'm using Logic X, when I save my files from my iMac to my external, then open the external from my Mac book, Serum is installed on both~ none of the presets I was using transfer over, the midi files transfer, but I have to manually select the presets again. Why is this happening? appreciate any help :)

The computer you're opening on is 1.000 and needs to be updated to the version showing on your iMac / they both should be updated to the latest version.

1.0 is currently installed on both computers, it must be something else? Thanks for the assistance Steve!
