Serum demo: preset folder path issue

Hi there,

I am still having an issue opening the presets when it asks to open the presets. I tried moving the presets folder to my desktop and that didn't work. Any suggestions?
thanks!

You could try C:\ but you shouldn't have to put it anywhere, try re-installing the demo.

When you write "once my payments begin" do you mean once they register? Because I made clear my payments have begun, otherwise I wouldn't be upset that I couldn't use the program or access the support forum. The directions given by Splice were followed precisely and they didn't work. I didn't want my hand held, I wanted self evident documentation, like other programs are supplied with. I didn't want to have to keep writing you back. Nobody wants to feel like a bother. That picked my ass. Self evident documentation would be best. Working out flaws instead of working around them is preferential.
I have seen you reply to others that this is not a "support" forum perse, but I was not acknowledged on the xfer site for several days after my purchase and therefore I had no access to the forum you say is the proper one to use. I can only suppose that the splice crew doesn't work on the weekends, and registration is not digitally automated. Furthermore implying that you don't really appreciate the forum being used this way comes off to me as rude.  Are questions of this nature really not appreciated here? They either are or aren't, please make up your mind.
You are telling people they need to buy the full version to fix the problem, but that didn't fix it for me, so you shouldn't say it. I want people to know what real world installation requires. This seems the best place to do that. Installation through 7-Zip made it work, will you tell us why?
I hope for two things by posting here, that you will identify the specific nature of problems experienced by users and design permanent solutions, rather than dealing with it on a customer to customer basis, which is sloppy patchwork. It works only if the customer spends time bouncing emails which is time consuming and irritating. Secondly, I want anyone who is considering purchasing to know that the remedy to the problem is not as simple as merely purchasing.
Incidentally, where is the help forum for Demo users (aka potential customers), is there one?
Though your program is very impressive, and the payment plan very considerate, there is a clear user unfriendliness problem regarding the installation process. I bought the program intending to learn it over the weekend, Splice didn't reply until Monday, so I wasn't registered as a paying customer until then, and you weren't exactly greasing the wheels. You must understand that would piss a guy off.  A protracted or laborious customer relations experience is unappreciated, so much so in fact at one point you yourself were ready to give up on me, a paid customer!
Our unwitting beta testing should lead to improved program performance. It is for the provider to fix problems and for customers to enjoy the products. When customers start feeling like employees something is wrong. Being your own boss means the buck stops with you.
I wish you could see why I don't like your responses, but if you don't want to you won't.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm not sure why you feel the need to air it here, so I do feel obligated say in my defense - that you were acting very strange/wordy/emotional over an issue that was very unusual (most people can run the exe) and upset on a Sunday that I didn't reply back on a Saturday, etc.  I  became to-the-point to help your problem get resolved (from a mobile phone, out on a Sunday) and we did soon after.

Thank you! That question was with the demo.  But now I have the real Serum.  Looking forward to it.

Hello,

I am using Ableton on Windows. When I try to open Serum it asks for a preset folder. The preset folder is not in the location indicator earlier in this thread at documents/xfer. There is no xfer folder in my documents. When I go to Show Serum Presets Folder, a folder under user/AppData/Roaming/Xfer comes up, but there is no folder titled Serum presets in this location, only a Serum folder with a CFG file. I tried selecting the folder titled Serum and that did not work either. The VST still says "Please select the folder named 'Serum Presets' in window about to appear". What should I do to get Serum working?

Thanks,
Drew

Drew, you need to run the full installer, in Splice if you need to re-install Serum, open the Splice client and navigate to the 'Plugins' Tab and click 'Reinstall'

So no matter how hard I try, I can NOT find the Serum Presets folder. I have reinstalled it through the splice client over and over, yet it is NO WHERE to be found. I am starting to get extremely frustrated with this whole thing. I am running windows 10 64 bit

I'm guessing youre installing the wrong installer on Splice (you don't want SerumFX, you want the full installer as found on the Splice client app plugins tab). You could alternatively run the demo installer here, or even open it with 7-zip and extract the presets folder out of the .exe).

am trying to download the demo setup of serum but its not downloading up to now

hey i downloaded the demo but when i try to use it is says that is needs a preset folder to run, i tried to select the right folder under documents but that didn't work so i put the folder on my D:/ drive read on this forum that that whould help but it didn't plz help!

Maybe the presets folder inflated incomplete for some reason, I would recommend trying 7-zip to extract it from the demo exe installer.

Hi,
I downloaded the serum demo (vst) a few days ago. I also got the preset folder, but when I open Serum it says:,,Please select the preset folder in the window to appear''. I saw this in a lot of tutorials of ,,how to install Serum'' on youtube, but in their case there was an ok button and you then could select the folder. In my case there is no ,,ok'' button, there is just the text (I use fl studio 13). The plugin seems to be cutted smaller at the sides. So I got the preset folder in my documents, but cant put it in. Another strange thing is, that in the preset folder are only empty subfolders (for example Bass is empty); all of the presets are empty. Maybe this helps to solve the problem. I already tried to change the resolution, but the button is still missing.
I use:
-acer labtop
-edition: Windows 10 pro / version: 1703
-prozessor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M460 @
2.53GHz 2.53 GHz
-installed RAM: 4GB (3.68 GB usable)
-system type: 64-Bit, x64-based prozessor
-resolution: 1366 x 768

I've seen this a twice now (installer not able to install files and just folders). I assume it is an antivirus acting up or a permissions issue. You could try extracting the Serum Presets folder using 7-zip, that should work.

Guys,

This is an important notice for those who have the Serum Presets folder in Documents/Xfer installed, but EMPTY!

The cause of the problem we had is BITDEFENDER.

The anti-randsomware filter of bitdefender prevents the installer to install files in your documents folder.
Check the bitdefender alerts and search for any app calles Splice or Serum… that was blocked from installing files.

is the serum demo and full serum synth separate? or can i unlock via demo .dll file?

they are separate (however the content doesn't have to be redownloaded).

Hi there, I am a Splice user, trying to get Serum to work. I've has the same issue as many others, its that I can't find my "serum preset". I've tried locating it in my documents, but I couldn't find one. I've downloaded the "serum installer" form splice, and not the "fx installer" one. I've read through this page, and you've mentioned about the "7-zip" method. I don't completely know if that would fix my issue, or how to do such a method. So could anyone help me out?
Thanks,
Surya :)

Sounds like you haven't run the full installer. Try "install" or "reinstall" from the Splice app, plugins tab (not update).

Hey!

Looks like I installed it the wrong way, I got a new PC, and this time, when I installed Serum and ran it, It worked smoothly. It didn't prompt anything, and no errors have been seen. Thank you Steve for helping, and excuse me while I browse through this amazing plugin!
